And I picked up on a line that I think I've known all the times I've heard it sung and tried to sing it myself, but not like that.

We choose to have him be the Lord and Master of our lives.

We choose to love him in response to his love to us.

His gates are open wide and no 1 will be denied.

It brings us to the thought of hope, of encouragement, and of determination to be resilient, right?

So I always miss my husband, because I love standing by his side, because he usually opens the meetings, and almost always closes the meetings, and it gives my heart time to actually get back to a more normal rate.

But when he isn't with me I just happen to look at my watch, it's a new watch and it's not an expensive 1, okay, so don't think I'm super techie.

But anyway I thought oh wow that's moving right along That's probably why I can feel my chest moving and my whatever.

And the reason I can do this program by myself is because it's not going to be by myself.

This is my favorite spot when I'm not with my husband and that is because I'm going to be talking specifically to the children here today because I love to make the scriptures simple so children can understand because that's how I learned to understand the scriptures and I am still on the kids level so when I do presentations alone it's kind of simplistic on a child's level.

Now I will need some helpers in a few minutes and it's going to be done a little bit differently.

How many have been to family retreat in the past?

Whoa most of you and how many have wanted to come up and be 1 of my helpers in the past.

And how many of you were helping me last year?

Then all of you would have helped me last year, right?

Because we had a program that was designed to include every single child in the room who could walk, maybe 3 and above, okay?

I don't think we had any two-year-olds up here.

But it is quite challenging to take a theme like resilient and make it so a child can understand it and get children to be able to help me.

So I'm not probably going to be able to have all the children help me today, but I'm going to have an awful lot of you help me today.

I need somebody, some children's hands, yes, right here honey, go ahead.

Like mom says, hey, I want you to clean your room, then I need you to go fold the laundry.

Anybody else over here, a definition of resilient?

Okay, try not to blend in, but be the 1 who does the right thing, thank you.

Oh, to do the right thing even if nobody else does it.

Well, we need to learn to be, all of us, and for us big kids too, because we're all kids here today, right?

In the time clock of eternity we're still in our infancy right?

Okay so here's some other different dictionary definitions.

To be pliable, that means you can be changed, not to go with the flow, but pliable meaning that when things don't go right, you can be willing to change in order to keep doing what is right.

Okay, if you get knocked down you come back up right?

Buoyant, you like to be buoyant in the water for sure.

To be strong, to be irrepressible, to rebound.

Do you know that resilient or resilience is not a character trait?

It is not in our DNA as this is who we are in our personality.

This is something that we have to develop, and we develop it only through trials, hardships, and temptations.

It's not learned when everything goes my way and everything's easy and I can just do what I want to anytime I want to and life is just really pleasant and non-stressful.

So children and for us as parents, we need to help our children to be able to face difficulties and hardships and disappointments and not try to make it so that they can avoid those things but help them learn how to be resilient through them.

So resilient is standing for what is right, because we know what is right, and it is to continue on when things get hard, but it has 1 more definition, and that is to be done with joy.

That changes the word resilient from many other adjectives that are very similar to that word, because it has the element of joy in that word.

So in the book of Hebrews, there is a long list in chapter 11 of people that were just like me and you who learned to be resilient through their life, through hard times.

Can any of you think who would be mentioned in the book of Hebrews?

Noah, Moses, Enoch, Abel, Gideon, and the list goes on.

In fact, it goes on to say there are so many people, yes, Samuel went in there.

There were so many people that we couldn't even name them all, but they had 1 thing in common.

And that is that they loved God with their whole heart.

And when we love God with our whole heart, Then we have the ability to obey God with a joyful heart.

And then it doesn't matter what we encounter because God has our life in his hands.

And many of those, as you continue reading through the book of Hebrews and these are all people who were resilient and then it talks about how their lives rolled out and how those lives ended.

Some were stoned, Some were burned, some were cut asunder.

You know, there's this long definition, or these long explanations, and yet all of these faithful people who have gone before us were resilient.

That means they lived their life in Christ with joy, and they took, at the end of their life, they were as happy as they were living their life with Christ and they were contented and felt it an honor to die for their Lord and their Savior.

And that's what we're gonna be on the journey today to do.

I wanna talk a little bit how we learn and develop resilience.

Because we know it's not a personality trait and it's interesting to know what research says about resilience or how to be resilient.

It says that in order to teach a child how to be resilient, we must be connected with them.

Now, the research says a significant person.

Not just us, but who is the most significant person possible that would be the most capable to instill resilience in us and our children?
