The Cursed Church

Our Father which art in heaven, we want to thank you so much Lord for your Holy Spirit that you promised to give us when we ask.

In this very important subject Father I pray that you would please alert our hearts and our minds to your still small voice, that we would sense your presence and as a result be transformed by it.

Father I pray that you would wake us up to the hour that we're living in.

That you would help us to recognize the times that we're in.

More importantly, Father, help us to not just realize the time, but let us act upon it.

Now, I don't want to just, I'm not talking about like bad words, someone curses at you in that way, but have you ever felt like a curse is upon you?

In my travels, I have met witches in doing meetings and stuff that—legit witches that—one of which I remember meeting not too far from here who said that she used to cast spells on people and cause them to do certain things.

Have you ever felt like you were under a spell?

If you've heard of Professor Walter Veith, he lived in a very supernatural upbringing where he grew up seeing like a cane just walking in the middle of the room, like just by itself, in the little villages that he's been to out in South America.

He's seen all kinds of stuff, all kinds of supernatural things.

And if you travel around the world, you'll notice that there is a lot of spiritualism all around.

I remember going to India to do a series out there.

And I remember they were taking me to a mountain that was called the Witch Mountain.

And they said, this is where all the witches are.

They were just sharing me stories upon stories.

It's all around us if we really take a look.

But have you ever sensed the darkness of a terrible spell?

I remember years ago when I first gave my life to Jesus Christ, like back in 2007, I remember a friend of mine named Kurt and Steve, we just finished having church and we were outside in Steve's car and we were talking and conversing.

And this was at night, we had some kind of Vespers or program and Steve just called us in to his car, he wanted to talk and we were gonna pray together.

And I just remember a lady in black walking past the car in Fontana, California.

And I just remember all of a sudden, all 3 of us sense this coldness, like we just entered into a freezer And this darkness and this fear just came upon us like we never experienced in all of our life.

We all immediately got this kind of sense of fear, like something's going on.

And I remember we all 3 of us, our first response to that was, let's pray, like right now.

And I remember all 3 of us just started praying and by God's grace, whatever that thing was, whatever it was, left us.

I remember that same friend, you know, was visiting with me 1 night at my house and we were studying the Bible or something like that.

And I remember that my friend Kurt goes to his car and he begins to drive off and he gets a text message.

So he pulls off to respond to the text message or message that he received.

And he says, as he's responding to the text message, all of a sudden he hears these chains, like someone is chained up coming to his car and the sound of the chains rattling is getting louder and louder and louder.

This was my friend's experience and he had many more stories.

But the question I have for us this morning is, have you ever felt like you were cursed?

Like bad things just kept happening to you and you wondered, has someone cast a spell on you?

Well, in the Bible, There have been people, there have been groups of people that have been cursed.

For example, there was a king by the name of Balak, and he wanted to use the prophet of God by the name of Balaam to curse the Israelites.

And so King Balak offered Balaam all the riches that he had and positions of authority within his kingdom.

And he says, all I want you to do is go over and curse the Israelites so that we could conquer and take over them.

And Balaam kept, you know, following King Balaam, but ultimately he kept saying, I can't do it.

He told the Midianite king that if they are able to seduce the people, get them off track, get them to worship idolatry, then basically they're cursed.

And so it was, ladies and gentlemen, that the children of Israel were right there on the promised land, right nearing the promised land, right there on the Jordan River.

They were about to cross and Balaam let out a curse upon God's people by getting the Midianitish women, pagan religion, pagan culture, to go in and seduce the men, the Israelites, get them to drink, get them to party, get them to lose their senses and their minds.

And so it was the Midianitish women came in and led in this revolt.

The Bible says in Exodus chapter 25 or Numbers chapter 25, There was an Israelite by the name of Zimri, and there was a Midianitish woman by the name of Cosby.

Now it's kind of interesting when you look at the meanings of the names, Zimri literally means music or musical, and Cosby literally means false.

And what happened was this Israelite and this Midianitist woman in front of Moses, in front of the whole camp, he brings in this woman into his tent and the whole nation is plagued.

Over 24, 000 people are destroyed, are killed because of the rebellion that's taking place within the camp of God.

But Phineas, 1 of the sons of 1 of the priests, goes in there and he basically gets a javelin and crushes both Zimri and Cosby and puts an end to the false music.

Now, ladies and gentlemen, I ask you again, have you ever wondered if you were under some kind of curse?

Have you ever experienced the curse that doesn't seem to leave?

Well, friends, I have a question for you.

Has God ever directly pronounced a curse upon a group of people?

Has God ever pronounced a curse upon a group of people?

We're going to our scripture reading, and I want you to notice what the Bible says here.

In Judges 5, verse 25, 23, excuse me, listen to what it says.

Inhabitants bitterly because they did not come to the help of the Lord, to the help of the Lord against the mighty." Now, I have to say this.

There is not much in Scripture about the group of the nation of Marous or whoever Marous is, but evidently when you look up the word Marous, the name Marous, it means refuge.

And when you look at the context of Judges, it seems to be that Marous was supposed to be a group of people that were to be a refuge for God's people who were in the thick of battle.

But this group of people, God asked them for help, help my people out, but they did not.

So as a result, they received a curse, a curse from the angel of the Lord.

And that is to say, God put a curse upon them.

And so we have the people of Merus were to be a place of refuge for God's people during what seems to be a battle they were under, but they did not come to the help of the Lord.

Now question, who pronounced this curse upon this group of people?

The Bible says, Curse Maroos said the angel of who?

So you're gonna have to help me out here today.

This is not a uncommon phrase throughout scripture.

And you'll notice when you study out the phrase or the name, angel of the Lord, it oftentimes references 1 particular individual.

So the question is who is cursing these people?
