This Kind Comes Out Only By Fasting and Prayer

Father in heaven, I just again wanna invite your presence here in a special way.

Lord, please give us a message from heaven.

We wanna hear from you, we wanna see you lifted up, we want you in our hearts, we want you in our lives.

And the fact is, all of us know that our lives are not the way they should be, and yet you have called us to a high holy position, and you will lift us up and bring us there by your power, by your grace, but we need to cooperate with you.

Make my words clear and just give relevance to every heart and speak to every person here and give them a message of hope this morning Lord I ask this in Jesus holy name amen this kind comes out only by fasting and prayer So kind of the theme for the messages I'm going to be sharing that I shared last night and today and tonight is victory over sin.

Yeah, someone doesn't like that topic And there's a reason why that is, yeah?

I want to tell you an experience that really kind of broke my heart.

I was talking with my nephew, and he's quite a bit younger than me, he had just graduated from Academy at that point, and in Academy he was on fire.

He had this experience with God and he just really took God by both hands and he was just doing amazing.

And he was kind of like the only 1 at his school that was really walking really close with God.

And he was just giving it his all and we're like, wow, praise God, because his home wasn't a very good home situation.

So we were all kind of amazed that he was doing as well as he was, to be honest.

And then a few years after graduation, I was down in Southern California visiting family and I sat with him and I always take him out we go to Jamba Juice and get smoothies and we get a meal and I was talking with him and he said hey man I gotta I gotta tell you something I was like what's up he goes I don't know how to tell you this, I'm just gonna tell you.

He's like, yeah, man, I just tell you, I just pretty much lost my faith.

And so what it came down to is, he was really on fire for God, but he had this 1 really pernicious sin that would not go away that really bothered him, and he could not get victory over it.

And because he could not get victory over it.

And because he could not get victory over it, he thus concluded that the God he worshiped must not be a very powerful God because he couldn't have that victory.

And if this was what Christian life was gonna look like, essentially struggling your brains out every single day, guilty every single day, then he just honestly wasn't interested for signing up for that kind of religion.

And it was a lot easier just to live, just to let go, just to let, just go with the flow, let the current take you where it does.

What would really break my heart is if we had this talk about victory over sin and people left here and they really didn't know what to do.

They just knew that sin was bad, I'm doing it, that's wrong, but I don't know what to do.

I want you to leave here with a very actionable, practical game plan, something you could do, something that I wish my nephew had received when he was going through his struggle.

Unfortunately, I wasn't, because we live in different places, I couldn't be part of that journey and he had already made his decision.

He's actually, little update, he's actually come back to the Lord.

And you know the family, like, we didn't persecute him, we didn't marginalize him, we didn't come down hard on him, we're just like, well of course, obviously we're sorry that you've come to that conclusion, but we love you, we'll always love you, we're gonna be here for you, we fellowshiped him, we loved him, And that provided a safe nest for him to continue to grow in his experience.

So we praise God that he's come back to faith.

Who, according to Scripture, is going to go to heaven?

Let's go to the book of Revelation chapter 2 and verse 7.

It says, He that has an ear let him hear what the Spirit says unto the churches.

To him that overcomes I will give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God." All right, who gets to eat of the tree of life?

Notice with me verse 11, who has an ear, hear what the Spirit says unto the churches, to him that what?

Overcomes, shall not be hurt by the second death.

Verse 17, he that has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says unto the churches, to him that what?

Overcomes, he will eat of the hidden manna.

To him I will give power over the nations.

Did we see a very consistent message there?

That's how the people in the kingdom are described.

And it's not because they're so big, bad, and powerful, but because they've learned how to connect to a God who is big, bad, and powerful.

A God who is incredibly, infinitely powerful.

And it's just, the issue that my nephew ran into is he felt it was all up to him.

Let me tell you, that's a very frustrating experience.

When you have very high standards and it's all up to you and your sinful flesh to work it out.

That is a recipe for discouragement and disaster.

But when you know how to plug into God, God can do for you what you can't do for yourself.

And you know, after I was converted, some sins just disappeared.

Other sins lingered, and I had to battle with them day after day after day.

And as I travel, as I speak to young people, I speak to young people in different places, I see 1 theme popping up over and over and over, and I've started discussing it last night, and that is our phones and social media.

I was in El Salvador 2 years ago and totally different country, totally different culture.

You know what all the young people are doing?

I was just in Costa Rica for 4 months, just last month.

You know what all the young people there are doing?

They're glued, everywhere, worldwide, everywhere you go.

How much time exactly are young people spending on their phones?

Let's look at some statistics about screen time.

According to this source, the Magna ABA, that's a behavioral science and therapy center, 7.5 to 9 hours a day on screens.

That's most of your waking hours right there.

Some reports, you know, you get different reports out there.

They say there's an average of 7 hours, 22 minutes daily screen time.

This number excludes the time spent on schoolwork.

A more recent report as of 2021 says actually we think it's more like 8 hours 39 minutes daily screen time.

And as I travel internationally and see young people everywhere all around the world that sounds about right.

And I would say at this point, we're dealing with an addiction.

You know, when I was growing up, the addictions were all chemical.

It was meth, it was heroin, it was whatever.
