Question & Answer

We're very privileged to have an expert panel to answer some of the questions that have been raised for many of the people who've attended our seminar here, our conference here.

So I'm just going to invite our expert panel up.

Now many of us we've already seen and heard from our guest speakers, but Dr.

Ross Grant, we haven't had a formal introduction to him yet, So I will introduce him first of all before we continue with our panel.

Now Dr Ross Grant, he's a biochemical pharmacologist.

He is the head of the Australasian Research Institute based at the Sydney Adventist Hospital.

He also has an academic position at the School of Pharmacology and the Faculty of Medicine at the University of New South Wales.

He was also my lecturer when I was at the University of New South Wales.

He's got some exciting research that I really hope he's going to share with us tomorrow.

It's got some fascinating information with regards to how lifestyle affects our genes.

So it's going to be some really interesting information we're going to hear tomorrow.

So I'll just invite you to take a seat and then we're going to go through some of the questions that I believe, and, oh I haven't introduced myself.

I'm a GP registrar working in Sydney, but that's okay.

You know, after we've been talking about the city evangelism, I think we should be asking some questions about where it's been so successful.

I don't know if you've heard what's going on.

12 conferences, 1 city, 20 million people, 12 conferences, 700, 000 seventh day adventists.

I think we need to find out what they're doing.

Okay, guys, because of time, we'll just launch straight into it.

I've got our first question, and anyone can jump in.

How can a lay health worker find recognition for people to have healing when you are not a doctor or have letters behind your name?

Are we to wait for the promised outpouring of the Holy Spirit before that power can be made manifest?

Anyone would like to answer that question?

How can a lay health worker find recognition from people to have healing when you're not a doctor or don't have letters behind your name?

Well, you know, success is the first thing.

If you start helping somebody and have success, that word spreads.

Well, I would say also to that, Nick, 1 thing that the temptation with, and I'm a lay health worker too, because I'm not lettered in any health arenas, The temptation is either to not do anything or to think you know more than you know.

And I would say that a balance is needed, but if you stick to the simple things, like food as medicine, exercise, and always making sure that people are working with their personal physician as to what they're able to do and not able to do, et cetera, then you'll be able to help people even if you don't have a degree in that field.

And I would just encourage you to pick up the book Ministry of Healing, and if you do what it says, you won't go wrong.

You know, you have much more information in that book than the majority of physicians do.

Coronary disease, diabetes type 2, you name the disease, They all improve with the same thing.

And I guess as you shared over on the Friday, Peter never had a letter behind his name, but they recognized that he'd been with Jesus.

How much should medical missionary work be about what you say to patients, for example, sharing Jesus verbally, versus how you behave in general and treat patients by your attitude?

So what's the difference between your expression of actual direct sharing of Jesus to your patients versus your attitude without verbally mentioning Jesus?

You do, if they're open, God will help you.

If they're not, live it, but keep your mouth shut.

I have some patients that I never talk to them about Jesus.

I have others that won't let me stop talking about it.

You know, the other thing, though, is never make the mistake of deciding who should be in the kingdom and who shouldn't, who's a good candidate and who isn't.

The most important thing that I do is I get my staff together every morning, Adventists and non-Adventists alike, and we pray.

Help us to know when to speak and when to be quiet.

Well I would just support everything that was just said.

I mean when it comes to I think the most important witness is really how you live your own life.

And certainly even with dealing with students, some of the students that I deal with come on as research students that are with me for a year and 2 years and 3 years.

But what is interesting to see them change over time.

I never say anything about what they should or shouldn't eat, but on the basis of what they see and the sort of research that we do, you'll see them coming in and, you know, they'll come in first year with their sort of Cokes and, you know, chips for lunch, and then gradually you'll see that change, and now they're coming in with carrot sticks and sort of pushing over, sort of, you know, here's a fruit salad for you, and you know, it's great.

And not only that, but actually we have, just with my, 1 of my research assistants and I, who is a Christian, not an Adventist, but a very good Christian, and we've always taken the habit of just praying before our meal.

And the students will eventually come and join us, and then they'll all bow their heads while we say a blessing, and then we'll sort of carry on.

So it really is a witness and it has to be consistent.

And I guess that's always my fear is whether or not at some stage I'm not consistent.

But that's through prayer, giving that over to God.

What should I do if individuals in my church, either knowingly or unknowingly, push certain health principles, for example, veganism, before others are ready?

It is so important in the world church as well.

I mean, our Lord and Savior ate fish and lamb.

You know, my wife and I, as you know, we're off the deep end in the diet, you could say.

But it's important to say to people, Look, this is therapeutic.

You had a good answer to that when you were asked about whether you should eat meat or not.

I was at a camp meeting, West Virginia camp meeting, and at the end of the meetings, we had a panel up front.

And I was at this end, there was 4 ministers this side.
