They're actually allowing me to start early, and I've got plenty, and then we're going to talk for probably 45, 50 minutes.

I've got to be done in an hour, and therefore, we'll take the last 10 minutes or so for questions.

So if I ignore your hand during the process, please don't get insulted.

My topic for this morning is your body exists for 1 purpose and that is for your mind.

Everything your body does should be taking care of your brain.

So we're going to look at this in reverse this morning.

We're going to look at what we need to do for the body to preserve the mind.

I've been in practice over 40 years and what I'm observing is frightening.

I'm observing people 20 years or more younger than me that are losing their marbles right there in my office.

They're doing these kind of things that I expect grandpa to do.

They're coming in and they're saying things, oh, you know what I'm talking about.

Or you know that thing or that widget gidget.

I'm going, oh man, we got problems here, boys.

America is losing their mind literally and actually physically We're going to try to connect the dots because if you don't get this 1 right you haven't got anything How many of you have got a parent a friend?

They may be a live in the moment, but they remember you 5 minutes later.

If you don't have your mind, and you don't have your memory, you do not have existence outside of the realm of just heartbeat, breathing, etc.

Now in the spiritual realm over here, if you don't have your mind, let me ask you a question.

So if anyone should be concerned about their mental health, it should be God's children, which I know we all are.

I'm talking about you recognize yourself 1 of God's children.

Number 1 is we go through these 7 factors.

This is Blalock and Breslow's study back in the 60s.

Public health, observation of what are the most significant factors for how long you're going to live.

The assumption is that you live physically to support the mind.

So Whatever you do to make yourself live physically longer, usually it's a benefit to your mental health.

So number 1, out of about 200 factors, I'm getting feedback here.

The feedback from about 20, excuse me, 200 different factors that these 2 researchers evaluate, they came up with these top 7 that are predictors.

Some you're going to expect, some you won't.

The top predictor, number 1, or 1 of the 7, was how long do you sleep at night?

Those people who slept between 7 to 8 hours lived the longest.

If you sleep less than 7 hours, you shorten your lifespan.

If you sleep more than 8 hours, you lose your lifespan.

Now we're going to say this is Alameda County, California back in 1967, but I think it's applicable.

You go, I would have never guessed that 1.

I would never guess that has to do with my mental health or my longevity.

Now I'm starting to sound like your mom, I know, but mom was right.

We're losing a big battle on that in the United States.

I started out in my career and they told me I had normal weight.

Now, 40 years later in my career, they call me skinny.

I go to buy clothes and I used to be able to wear large.

I'm wearing medium and I'm starting to wonder if I should be going to small Guess what?

I haven't changed My store has changed folks What used to be medium?

Used to be large you get I mean you see my point Maybe you're having the same thing when you go to the store.

Put those things in the washer, put it on hot, shrink that thing a little bit.

Regular exercise, I mean, excuse me, maintain proper regular, you'd expect that 1.

I recommend no use and not smoking so someone there you're going to recognize but out of those 7 I want you to keep track in your mind right now because we're on switch the page and Look what it does If we look at longevity and we look at health habits.

Look at the men that's who we're talking to number of health practices that you practice out of those 7.

How many do you actually practice if you practice all 7 the percentage of men who die in the next 9 years in their study was 5.5 men.

The next group, if you practice 6 of those health habits, 11%.

You come on down to 0 to 3, we had 20% of those men that were no longer with us.

Some areas the women fare a little bit better.

Now we're going to push it 1 step further.

By the way this was a study that we used at the 1982 World Fair when it was in Knoxville if you go back that far I was in charge of the Adventist booth as far as dealing with the lifestyle component.

Here's the kicker, find your age, let's say 50.

If you practice 0 of those health habits, we've gone from a chronological your birthdays to a health age this person that's 50 isn't 50 they're actually plus 22 this person is 72 years as far as their longevity now that sounds rotten that's a bum deal But let's keep going with the chart.

There's almost breaking even by the time they hit 6 habits They're now 44.3 again, and they got all 7 habits.

They're about 36 Do you see what I'm getting at here your chronological age is good, but I'm worried about your health age.

Your health age is what you should be looking at here.

Your mental age is what you should be looking at here, not your birthdays.

This is Pierre or pure off Alston He was a Swedish Physiologist a doctor who studied athletic performance.

I happen to believe there's a close correlation between athletic performance and mental performance.

Therefore, let's take a look at the chart.

He studied 3 groups or studied men that were divided into 3 groups or 3 different episodes.

Same group of men, 3 different experiments.

So the same ath- and by the way these were athletes, they weren't just people off the street.

Put them on 3 different dietary regimes and here's what he found out.

What he did is he put them on a bicycle, they rode 3 and a half miles an hour, and he said ride till exhaustion, just ride till you're dead.

First group, they were on a high protein, high fat, high meat diet, what you would call today the ketogenic diet.

And they rode those bikes for 57 minutes until exhaustion.
