Power In the Name

We're so thankful, Father, for you sending your Son into this world to be a propitiation for us, a sacrifice, so that we may have eternal life.

I just pray now, Lord, that this message may be a blessing to each 1, and that you would fill me with the Holy Spirit and anoint my lips, that I may give forth a message not of myself, but of you, for I'm your throne.

The title of this message is Power in the Name.

I'd like to begin by reading a quote from Acts of the Apostles.

The disciples were to carry the work forward in Christ's name.

Their every word and act was to fashion attention to his name, as possessing that vital power by which sinners may be saved.

Their faith was to center in Him who is the source of mercy and power.

In His name they were to present their petitions to the Father, and they would receive answer.

They were to baptize in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Christ's name was to be their watchword, their badge of distinction, their bond of union, the authority for their course of action, and the source of their success.

Nothing was to be recognized in his kingdom that did not bear his name and superscription.

Let's turn to Revelation chapter 12 and verse 10, And I saw a loud voice, this is Revelation 12, verse 10, And I saw a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ.

For the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.

And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony, and they loved not their lives unto the death." I think that this is a very profound verse because it shows that by the blood of the Lamb we can become overcomers and that it will show in our lives by our testimony, by the things that we say, by the things that we don't do, it will show to other people who is our master.

Genesis chapter 3, Genesis chapter 3 verse 15.

And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seat and her seat.

It shall bruise his head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

What we're going to find out is what is the blood of the Lamb?

What does it mean to become overcomers through the blood of the Lamb?

So right here we find out, we know that this is Jesus and that He is the 1 who will create the enmity between Satan and man.

Romans 8, chapter 7, and this is talking about the carnal mind.

Actually, we're going to go up, we're actually, let's start at Romans chapter 8 in the beginning.

There is therefore now no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit.

For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

For what the law could not do, and that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin condemned sin in the flesh, that the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit." Verse 5, For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh, but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.

For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace, because the carnal mind is enmity against God.

It is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be." So by this we know that by ourselves we cannot strive against the carnal nature.

That's why it's so easy for us to fall into sin.

As a matter of fact, when we draw away from God, we fall right into sin.

When you raise up a child, do you have to teach them to be bad?

They're automatically gonna act that way because the carnal nature strives them to that.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life." We know that Jesus was the sacrifice for us.

For we know that the wages of sin are death.

The interesting thing is he did not just stand in there and say, okay, now go on sinning.

Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound?

How can we, rather, how shall we that are dead to sin live any longer therein?

Know ye not, " and here's the important thing, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into His death.

Therefore, verse 4, we are buried with Him by baptism into death, that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Verse 5, for we have been planted in together in the likeness of his death, we shall also be in the likeness of his resurrection.

So the interesting thing, Christ was without sin.

He was sinless, but He was made as sin for us to be the sacrifice.

And when He died, it is a symbol of, and this is only through His power, but it's the symbol of Him, the sin dying in our lives.

And as He was risen up, we are to be risen up in likeness of Him.

Because we do find out in verse quite a bit down here, Romans 6 verse 11, 11.

Likewise, reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord." And we find out also from Romans 7 that the carnal nature is still there.

It's not completely gone, But by the power of Christ, by His sacrifice, by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, we can overcome.

And this is very important to us, especially in the last days if we are going to go to a time where there is no intercessor and we are still sinning, there is a problem.

But the other problem is right back to Revelation 12, they overcame by the power of the Lamb.

If we're still sinning, how did we overcome by the power of the Lamb?

Because there has to be a first fruit for that to come true.

Now, 1 thing, let's turn to Ephesians, Ephesians chapter 6.

Actually, before we turn there, I'm sorry, let's turn to Romans 8.

And Romans 8, well first off Romans 8 31, What shall we say then to these things?

He that spared not his Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

Who shall lay anything to the charge of God's elect?

It is God that justifieth." So we know here from this that no matter what, and as it goes down into verse 38, we find out that we're persuaded neither death, angels, principalities, or nothing can separate us from the love of God.

That if we have Jesus in our hearts, if He is in our character, and that's what we are to, we are, our goal is character development.

That is our whole goal is to liken our character to a God because the reality is if we don't have a character like God we can't win souls for the kingdom.

So the first thing is likening ourselves to God.

As a matter of fact, there are a lot of people in the world, and this is not a good reason to not come to church, but they don't want to come to church because of the, quote, hypocrites, unquote.

But if that is the reason you're coming to church, there's an issue.

We need to have our character likened to Him.

And what we're going to do is we're going to take a look at the armor of God.

And while you're turning there, I'd like to read something from Romans 13.

Romans 13, 11, it says, And knowing that the time now is high time to wake out of sleep, for now is our salvation nearer than when we first believed.

As we go down to verse 14 it says, but put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ and make not provision for the flesh to fulfill the lusts thereof.

I'm sorry, verse 12 is the 1 I meant to read.

The night is far spent, the day is at hand, let us therefore cast off the works of darkness and let us put on the armor of light." So what is this armor of light?

What is the whole purpose of this armor here?
