With the coming crisis and what has been shared here about the concept of achieving perfection and there's not that much time left, How do you achieve that and have a balance in your life so that you don't come away scared or overwhelmed?

I believe that the answer is very clear in 1st John chapter 4 that God wants first to recognize us to recognize our sense of need.

Man by our very nature human tendency is to believe that we can do things by ourselves and so God allows an understanding of a crisis whether it's a crisis that happens in our health or in our family, he wants to strip us of self-confidence.

No 1 can be ready to meet Jesus that has self-confidence.

So He allows a crisis to be revealed that shows us that it's not safe to trust in ourselves.

The same thing that will give us power to get victory is the same thing that will remove fear.

In 1 John chapter 4, the Bible says, Beginning in verse 17, herein is our love made perfect that we may have boldness, that's a lack of fear, in the day of judgment.

Because as he is, so are we in the world.

Then the next verse says, there is no fear in love.

And so this is clear that the Bible says that if a man has love in his heart for the master, then he does not have fear.

If a man's afraid, it's an evidence that he's lacking love.

And so the thing that would stop us from being overwhelmed is in the midst of this to understand the love of Jesus.

Where's the greatest place that the love of Jesus has been revealed?

But It's interesting that when you study the Bible, we're actually told in the pen of inspiration, Great Controversy 489, it says that the cross, that the clear revelation of the love of Christ is actually given in the most holy place.

You ever read a statement that says that in the last generation we will see the full and final display of the love of God.

And so the full display, the final display of the love of God is still in the future.

We're actually going to see a greater revelation.

When you look at the sanctuary, from the outer court to the holy place to the most holy place, we're looking more at the love of Jesus.

You remember when the Bible says who's going to forgive most?

So that love increases more and more until the perfect day, Proverbs 4, verse 18.

So I believe that if we see that love from the outer core and into the most holy place, that is perfect love.

You know the Bible speaks of alpha and the omega.

We must understand that love as is displayed in the beginning and at the end.

So if we have that love, it will destroy fear and it will show us how to practice the principles that God has given us in everyday life.

There's a beautiful quotation stated by Sister White in Life Sketches 196, where she says, in reviewing our past history, having traveled over every step of advance to our present standing, I can say, praise God.

As I see what the Lord has wrought, I'm filled with astonishment and with confidence in Christ as leader.

We have nothing to fear for the future, except as we shall forget the way the Lord has led us and his teaching in our past history.

When we study the movements of God from our past history all the way up to the point where Sister Wise says she was reviewing it, she sees that love that was demonstrated, that faithfulness of our great leader.

And he is still offering and willing to give that love and that faithfulness to each and every 1 of us.

And as long as we hold on to that and not forget our past history and not forget the way God has led us, then we have nothing to fear because he has already promised victory as we abide in Him.

I like the point that Pastor Davis brought out in Great Controversy 489.

It actually said, she starts to talk about the cross but then she transitions into the Most Holy Place and the words that she uses is she says, there.

Now when she's talking about the Most Holy Place, that was the last topic that she was talking about, she says there, in the Most Holy Place, she says the light of the cross is reflected.

In other words, it's not that the cross just stays over here, but there's something about the light of the cross and what took place, the blood that is in the outer court, that's in the Holy Place, that's in the Most Holy Place, that according to Revelation 12 enables us to overcome through that wonderful life of Jesus being lived out within us.

We have nothing to fear as long as we abide in him and forget not the way God has led us and of course our past history.

So how does that happen with no time left?

The promise is, and Some people look at it on the flip side.

I don't care how small the coin is, it has 2 sides.

And so when you look at the quotation in early writing 67, it says we have, it says that God will teach us in a few months what it has taken others years to learn.

Some people will look at that and say, oh it's scary because how are we gonna do this, we only have a few months, but that's a promise and the promise is that it may have taken many years to do what needs to be done and God's gonna allow us to do that in a short amount of time.

That's wonderful and all we have to do now, I must admit and I don't know where it's come from but there is a thinking that persons who don't know Jesus don't have to be afraid of the crisis and the Bible doesn't teach that in the book of Isaiah the Bible says fearfulness will surprise the hypocrite and so if a man doesn't know Jesus he should be afraid.

There's no safety in anything outside of Christ.

But if a man has Jesus, a relationship with him, he has nothing to fear.

Some people don't, they want to gain a relationship without time.

They spend time in Facebook, they spend time on television, they spend time in tweeting, they spend time doing everything else.

But when the 1 who loves us the most, a man that's friendly, A man that has friends must show himself friendly.

And if we treated each other the way we treat God, we wouldn't have any friends.

If we give Him time, there's nothing that He can't do within us.

I read a statement that it says that God can do more in 1 moment for us if we let him than a person can do in their whole lifetime.

I want to make sure that we can answer as many questions as possible.

So, all right, very quickly, that same quotation, early writing 67, she says, said the angel, deny self, and it says, ye must step fast.

We know that we are to take steps to Christ, but you can take slow steps and you can take fast steps.

Don't let it be sporadic and haphazard, but that time for prayer, that time for Bible study, be consistent.

Don't let it be sporadic and broken, because that'll slow the pace down, and eventually we won't keep pace with the light, and we might be left in darkness.

So step fast, and you'll see that God will help us in a few months to grow in the experience of Jesus.

Where did this prophecy come from and how do we determine whether it's true or false?

In the book of Leviticus chapter 26 there is a term that is used where God is telling Israel that if they did not of course reform and do their acts correctly in obedience that God says he will allow them to go through punishment and the term that is used in Leviticus 26 in several verses verses 18 verse 33 verse 28 it says that God will allow them to be punished 7 times now it's interesting because the verse doesn't say 7 times.

And for some reason, we always extract that word more and we make it sound like it's a prophecy.

Well, what happened is William Miller in history, as he was studying Leviticus Chapter 26, he got to a point that he saw that statement of the 7 times and he figured well times equals you know a period of time so he took the day for year principle and he applied it to the 7 times where it came up to 2, 520 days a day in prophecy represents years so therefore he believed that in 202520 years something was going to happen as it relates to Israel from a scattering gathering standpoint William Miller eventually these recordings was put on a chart And as a result of it being on a chart and Ellen White addressing the chart and speaking very favorably of the chart, there are individuals and movements today in the Seventh-day Adventist Church who believes that if a pastor, a minister, a ministry is not teaching the 2520 or 2, 520 year prophecy supposedly found in Leviticus chapter 26 that they have apostatized from foundational and fundamental Adventism And this movement has grown very large today, and therefore there's major schisms and splits in God's church over this numeric calculation.

Well, if individuals were to simply take the Bible, go to Leviticus 26, and read it, you would see that as you go through the verses, God is making statements of severity because he keeps saying 7 times more.

And then if you don't do this, then there'll be another punishment 7 times more.

And then if you don't do this, he says there'll be a punishment 7 times more again.

So God is making a statement of severity of punishment, which was fulfilled when the children of Israel were in captivity with Babylon and Ellen White speaks about this in the book Prophets and Kings and that is our only commentations on, or commentary on, Leviticus the 26th chapter Therefore, the pioneers, when they came together, they studied, they said well let's go ahead and let's look at you know Many of the things we once believed and it came together and it was not just James White I don't know why individuals believe that but James uses the word we he says we we have studied and he says we have seen that there is no prophecy in Leviticus the 26th chapter it was clearly harmonious because Jay and Loughborough made it clear he said the longest time prophecy in the Bible 2300 days Stephen Haskell longest time period in the Bible 2300 days and so on all of you know several of our pioneers and 1 day somebody came and I'll make this point on it, somebody came and they said, well, Ellen White said that there was a mistake in the chart, and The mistake was not the 2520, the 2520 was on the 1850 chart, so therefore the 2520 must be true.

And I said to myself, I said, okay, that's interesting.

So I was talking with a gentleman who was at 1 of our training schools, and I was invited there to speak, and he wanted to have a one-on-one audience with me.

How To Get Ready for the Second Coming

So good to see you all here this morning.

I'm very glad you're here in God's house and it's a privilege to share from you from the Bible and to talk about spiritual things.

So some of you just coming in, feel free to come down and get a seat.

My name is David Beal, and I'm a third year medical student here at Loma Linda.

Just finished psychiatry rotation this week, it's a blessing.

And so this is, now that we have a little weekend off, I'm glad to be here to study from God's word.

Especially, this was a meaningful subject for me to research for myself, because I had some questions on our subject this morning that had never been fully answered in my own mind.

We're gonna talk this morning about how to get ready for Jesus to come back.

You think that's an important topic to talk about?

I want it to be a practical study, and I hope that you find things that are a blessing and useful for you in your own preparation for Jesus to come.

There were unanswered questions in my mind, and we will get to those soon, but a lot of it's fairly straightforward, and I hope you get a blessing.

So let's ask for the Lord's Spirit to speak to our hearts as we study his word.

Dear God, we just want to say thank you so much for your love and mercy to us, for giving Jesus, who came all the way from heaven and spent years of life on earth in an inconvenient and difficult position, and then to die to pay the price for all our mistakes.

We just want to thank you for his sacrifice, for his support from heaven, for the gift of the Holy Spirit, who you said that will guide us into all truth, but we know that you don't force yourself on us.

And so we want you to know that you're welcome here and we're asking for your guidance.

Speak to our hearts as we study from your word and give us strength in our hearts.

Give us love for you that will enable us to love the people around us and to prepare for your return.

Thank you so much for your compassion, amen.

OSCE is an objective, structured clinical examination and medical students get them regularly.

There are a number of ways that we're tested in order to see if we're learning the things that we need to know to become a good doctor.

You think it's important for medical students to get tested?

Yes, okay, so it's hard sometimes, but it is important.

And there is book knowledge, and then there's practical knowledge.

And an OSCE is when you go into a room and they have it set up in this building and someone pretends to be a patient and they pretend to be sick.

And then you interview them just like you would a patient who was truly sick and you find out what's wrong and you suggest a plan and you were graded on how well you do.

So I just had my psych OSCE and I was intimidating because I find OSCEs difficult.

It's just not something I was used to and I was concerned about it.

And I was grateful that at the time I was working with residents in the hospital.

Resident is someone who has already gotten their MD and they're in training to become a fully specialized physician.

And so I was working with these residents, and they are the ones who have given this OSCE before.

They have pretended to be the person who's sick.

When you have psych, you don't actually have people who are depressed.

You have someone, a resident, who comes in and pretends like that.

So these are the people who have given the test before.

And so, I mentioned I was going to take it and said, OK, here's what you need to know.

And it was really helpful to hear it from them, because they're the ones who give the test every year.

I appreciate the advice that I get from fellow students, but the advice from someone who has given it is golden.

And this, the rotation I was also on was consult in the hospital, and it's a hard psych rotation.

But the experience we got and the advice from them made it, I think it was the best OSCE I've had, which, maybe you wonder, well, how were the previous ones?

But it went really well because I got the advice I needed to know on how to prepare.

So there is an OSCE coming for every 1 of us.

Before the second coming, God has set up something that is essentially an OSCE.

And he has told us in his word how to prepare.

You'll find out as we go farther this morning why I say it's an OSCE, and the elements that make it different and then what you would usually think of as a test.

And most importantly, God has told us how to get ready.

And so we'll be studying the passages of scripture that go over what to prepare.

Since God has given the test, isn't he the best person to ask how to get ready?

So it's and he's given us that instruction in his word.

So we're going to look at those passages and I'd like to invite you to consider in your own minds as we study this morning, am I getting ready for the second coming of Jesus?

Am I following these instructions that God has given in His Word?

You know there are a lot of ways that people try to get ready for Jesus to come.

When you hear about getting ready for the second coming, people have some interesting ideas.

Some people move to the wilderness, way out in the middle of Montana, or British Columbia, or somewhere, in order to get ready to hole up for Armageddon and get ready for the second coming.

You know, there are members of our own faith, there are Adventists, who are dear hearted and they want to escape the temptations of the world, and there's validity in that.

The country can be a much better place to raise children and to have a better spiritual environment than living in a big city.

But that's not the only, and really, it's not the most important step in getting ready for Jesus to come back.

You know some people stockpile food and even weapons getting ready for the second coming, but the Bible has told us in Isaiah 33 16 that our bread will be given to us and our water will be sure.

And it even, yeah, so you look, if you look at that, that whole study in Isaiah 33 is talking about the day of God.

Says, who among us shall dwell with everlasting fire?

Who among us will dwell with everlasting burning?

We are going to have a lot of passages of Scripture.

When I was doing this study, there was more than I could comfortably fit in to 1 message, and I don't want to keep you for an hour or longer.

We would rather split it up into more times.

So I will give you some that I would encourage you to jot down and look at this afternoon, and there will be some key ones that we need to focus on now, okay?

Now, I do believe, just a side note, that there is wisdom in not being dependent on a weekly trip to the grocery store.

Not simply for the second coming's sake, but we're expecting a big 1 in California, right?

There in the southeast we have hurricanes and tornadoes and there are times when you should be prepared to not have to go to to the grocery store every other day.

We are quite dependent on things that we could, we ought not to be that dependent on.

But God has not put forward stockpiling food as the big preparation for the second coming.

And People say, well, I can't, you know, not be able to buy and sell, I need some gold and silver.

Well, it may not be a good financial investment, number 1, but there's lots of scripture that says, do not put your confidence in gold and silver.

You can see that in Job, and there's a bunch of other places.

Some people say, well, you know what, if I can just get my solar panels up, I'll be ready for the time of trouble.

I'll have my air conditioning or light at night or whatever.

I'll have my hydroelectric going in my outpost way in the woods, or I'll have natural gas or whatever.

I understand what people are thinking, and I understand the interest for energy independence.

Dear Jesus, we pause to say thank you for waking us up this morning, for breathing into our bodies the breath of life.

We are grateful for the gift of health, Lord.

Now as we commence this presentation, be in our midst, open our minds, give us understanding, And may we receive not just information, but also inspiration that will lead to transformation in our lives is our prayer in Jesus' name.

How many of you are passionate about health or being healthy?

And how many of you are selective with the foods that you eat?

Now, of course, foods can be very deceiving, right?

They're foods that are very, they smell really good, they look really good, it's very tasty, but not everything you see is good for you, and not everything you eat is good for you, so you've got to be careful.

So in our first session, we kind of talked about diet and destiny.

We kind of talked about how the devil came in and he tempted Adam and Eve, and of course Eve first, when she wandered away and she went to the tree, the knowledge of good and evil, and so sin entered into this world on the point of what?

Sin entered into this world on the point of what?

Sin entered into this world on the point of appetite.

The health and gospel connection was when Jesus came, he picked up where Adam and Eve, our first parents fell, and that was on the point of what?

Do you remember his first temptation was what?

If you be the son of God, turn, command these what?

So that's why appetite is very important for us and we need to protect and guard our appetites and Be informed because the devil has infiltrated as I said the food industry.

That's what we covered in the first Session he has infiltrated the food industry It's laced with chemicals additives preservatives that actually break down the food, decompose the food, which actually contributes to adverse neurological effects.

The whole thing about our presentation is God restoring his image and likeness in us, in our mind and so if it have, if it's having neurological effects then we're not able to fully form the image of God in our minds, in our character.

And then of course, secondly, he's infiltrated the pharmaceutical industries, and in fact most industries, agricultural industries, media industries, entertainment industries, so it's all an attack and assault on the mind.

And that's the reason why we've got to guard it.

What we eat is important because it helps to nourish our mind and keep it in an optimal state of functionality.

This is a little bit deeper, this second presentation, so you may take notes and of course it's a little bit more intense.

So this is the advanced course, you know the first 1 was basic, This is advanced.

So let's go as we journey together, as we build our case.

There's the outward nature, which is the body or the flesh, and the inward nature, which is your mind.

There are 4 parts or sections of the brain.

There it is the seat of conscience, personality, spirituality, reason, okay?

All there right here in the frontal lobe part of the mind, okay, this is where God speaks to us, will, comprehension, right here in the mind, the frontal lobe, we're exposed to frontal attack and assault, that's what we have to defend it and protect it.

So what we put into our bodies, that begins to interfere or can infiltrate our mind.

And that's the reason why we need to understand this.

Now, when God created us, we had a perfect mind.

The higher powers, before Adam sinned, his higher power controlled his lower power.

There's a part in the brain, well all parts of the brain are connected, but there's a special relationship, an inextricable link between the frontal lobe and the deep central part of our brain connect to our brainstem.

In the limbic system, it's also a layman's term.

The lower nature is housed passion, appetite, and desire.

It's connected to the higher power, which is our frontal lobe that governs our intellect, our reason, and our conscience.

So the governing power, the will, of course, and that's where the seat of spirituality or the faculty of faith resides.

I hope it's not too, I want to just give you information that's not too much, no TMI, but just enough so that you can understand where we're going.

So this is a picture, a diagrammatic scheme for you to understand a little bit better, to illustrate my point.

And there is the higher power and there's the what?

And before sin entered, the higher power controlled what?

So that's what we want to establish based on this diagram, this illustration.

After Adam sinned, the opposite happened.
