05 Why I Believe In Ellen White

Father in heaven, I want to thank you this morning for a new day of life.

I thank you for each 1 here Thank you for GYC.

We have of knowing you and your son Jesus Christ whom you have sent Lord I ask now this morning that the Spirit of God would especially be with us, would impress our hearts and our minds.

Lord, you've given this gift to us as a people, and you've given it for a great reason, and I pray that that would come clear to each 1 of us this morning in this presentation.

So, I told you earlier in the week, and I'm going to elaborate this morning, that when I was in my, well, my family, my mom and my dad actually were first generation Adventists.

They received Bible studies from some dear saints that are sleeping in the Lord now and I think just before I was born they joined the Adventist Church But my mom and dad were divorced when I was about 7 years old and my mom remarried and and during that time We moved to Mount Vernon, Ohio anybody familiar with Mount Vernon, Ohio and it Good old Adventist ghetto in Mount Vernon.

I went to the church school there through eighth grade.

And 1981 was the year when everything hit the fan in the Adventist church with Desmond Ford.

Desmond Ford was an Australian theologian who began picking at the sanctuary doctrine and obviously by connection Ellen White because he said the only reason we have the sanctuary doctrine the way we do is because of the teachings of Ellen White and Uriah Smith etc.

In fact he said Ellen White got it from Uriah Smith, but that's why we hold to it.

The Ford crisis I mentioned yesterday to those who were in here, this was nationwide at least.

And it hit the main Newsweek magazine, Time magazine, news outlets and what have you about what was happening in the Adventist church.

And of course, all the Christian world was abuzz with it.

Christianity today, the Adventists are finally coming around, you know.

And so multitudes of ministers left the denomination.

Entire churches, congregations switched over to Sunday keeping churches.

And even to this day, time does not permit me to say how much that impact has rippled through in 1 of those areas is Ellen White a Man by the name of Walter Ray and Adventist minister.

He was a Verbal inspirationist We've talked about inspiration.

So when he discovered that Ellen White had actually used other people's writings, he said, well, this, you know, how can you can't do that if you're inspired?

He wrote a book called The White Lie, exposing Ellen White.

They interviewed him in news outlets and what have you.

So this is what was going on when I was in eighth grade.

And at the same time, there are a lot of people in the church, boy, time doesn't permit me, because we have this, we'll always have this.

I wish we wouldn't use the word legalism.

I think we should use the word formalism, because that's what happens.

When we think legalism, we think of somebody who's real strict in their diet or something, but legalism takes a lot of forms.

You know, I can go to the soup kitchen, I can say it's not important to keep the commandments, I don't have to keep the Sabbath, I don't have to do anything, I just go and help the soup kitchen every week.

If I do that because it's going to get me into heaven, which people do, it's like, I'll tell you, I've gone because I'm also in personal ministry.

You knock on doors, you interview people, you ask them about what they think about God.

Do you feel if you died tonight, you'd be saved?

I've heard pastors say, it's like, everybody feels lost.

What gives you that confidence to say, because I'm a good person.

Listen, if you think you're being saved because you're a good person, that's legalism.

I don't care if you're not keeping the Sabbath and if you're not eating cheese, you're eating cheese and doing all these things, you're still a legalist.

And I would say formalism is when you keep going through the motions of religion, but you have no real connection with the Lord.

And that has been a problem in the church, and it will always be a problem in the church.

And that was at probably 1 of its periods of its height in 1981, and I think that's where Ford found access, because Ford came and encouraged people with getting away from the rules and what have you, and there are different takes on that.

But during that time period, I was living with my mom and my stepdad and they left the Adventist church.

My mom, my stepdad actually went on disability for a sickness he contracted.

He was doing construction work so he couldn't do that.

And my mom, my aunt, she actually, she and her husband, my uncle, it was her second husband, he was a highway bridge contractor and had lots of money.

So he invited my mom to move from, we were in Mount Vernon, Ohio, to Columbia, Missouri.

And he was going to put her up in her own beauty salon.

Well, anybody know what the busiest day of a beauty salon is?

Now, my mom, I don't think my mom, she thinks she's the owner, the manager, whatever else, And so she'll go, she doesn't have to go in on Saturday.

It's interesting to me to this day where people would say, and I still hear it.

I was in Australia and I had somebody pushing back because I was telling my story.

And like, You need to tell people how many people were blessed by dr.

Ford We lived through it and it's the people say I'm I'm free in Jesus now because I accept it Let me tell you something about my family.

We were free from Jesus Religion was gone.

So tell me, yeah, this guy's been, look, by their fruits you shall know them.

And the fruit of that teaching doesn't go anywhere good.

All right, well, Happy Sabbath, everybody.

How many of you enjoy that special music, amen?

We want to thank you so much for coming to the Hot Springs Seventh-day Adventist Church, and whether you're joining us online or whether you're seated here, I want to thank you so much for coming.

I counted 1 of the greatest privileges on earth to be able to share the Bible, and I'm so thankful I get to do that for a living.

In a couple of weeks, I'll be heading over to San Antonio to do an evangelistic series.

And as an evangelist, 1 of my favorite subjects in all the Bible, obviously, is prophecy.

It is something that I think about daily.

It is something that I research daily, and it's something that I'm really passionate about.

And 1 thing that we have been told to do as a church is to prophesy again.

And so 1 of the mandates that we have from God himself as a church is to make sure we tell others about the soon coming of Jesus Christ.

Well, this morning, our subject is entitled 1 Mind.

There is a battle over our minds and I think a lot of us really don't understand the ramifications about this intense battle that is waging over our mind.

And so this morning, as we get into a prophetic message, 1 that I hope that will be relevant for each and every 1 of you.

I just want to invite you to please bow your heads for a word of prayer.

Our Father which are in heaven, I want to pray with all my heart that you would please be the author and speaker.

I pray that you would please, Lord, tailor make this message for young and old in this place.

Father, I thank you so much for everyone that participated in today's service.

And I pray Lord for any of our visitors that you continue to bless them too.

And now Father, I pray with all my heart that you would please remove all distractions, that you would somehow Father speak through a poor, sinful mortal like me.

Please Lord, I just pray that Jesus would be lifted up and that all of us will be drawn closer to you.

For I ask this prayer in Jesus' name, amen.

All right, you all know that I love interaction, so you guys warm up your voices real quick and get ready.

I hope your seatbelts are fastened because this message is going to be eye-opening to say the least.

What is 1 of the greatest signs that we have in the Bible that Jesus is soon to come?

What is 1 of the greatest signs that we have in Scripture that indicates, hey guys, get ready, Jesus is about to come.

Now, this is the sign that a lot of people don't talk about.

And so I think today's message is going to be eye-opening for many of us.

But what is 1 of the signs that the Bible says we need to be aware of that Jesus is soon to come?

All right, I can't hear anything out there.

Okay, that's a good sign for sure, but that's not the 1 I'm thinking of.

Ah, the gospel going to all the world is 1 of the main signs that that is absolutely correct.

You all are right, but there's another 1.

If you're listening on audio, you want to make sure you tune in on the video because we have slides, we have a lot of verses, quotes, and we have visuals.

So I'm gonna give you this clue, pay close attention to this thing.

Something's gonna happen to it, but I want you to be aware of that this is depicting 1 of the greatest signs that Jesus is soon to come.

What is the greatest sign, 1 of the greatest signs that Jesus is soon to come?

Any of you caught it from that imagery there, That little video, that little graphic motion, motion graphic.

This is a Daniel 2 basic prophecy that we oftentimes talk about.

The question is, when is Jesus going to come?

In the midst of this prophecy, the very last thing that you see happening is a stone that's cut out with no human hand hits this great image.

I want you to notice what the Bible says in respect to this.

Listen to what it says in Daniel chapter 2, verse 44.

And in the days of these kings, the God of heaven will what?

Set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed.

Okay, so the Bible says that during the time of these kings, so something's gonna happen.

We're gonna figure out who these kings are, but the Bible describes in the days of these kings, God is gonna set up a kingdom which will never be destroyed.

So in other words, the setting up of the kingdom is God coming down and bringing us up to glory.

And the Bible says that's gonna happen in the days of these kings.

We're looking at Daniel chapter 2, starting in verse 41.

Notice what the Bible says, Whereas you saw the feet and toes, partly of potter's clay and partly of iron, the kingdom shall be what everybody?

So the kingdom shall be partly strong and partly fragile.

As you saw iron mixed with ceramic clay, they will mingle with the seed of men, but they will not what?

Adhere or stick to 1 another, just as the iron does not mix with clay.

And in the days of these kings, the God of heaven will set up a what?

All right, so when we look at the great image that we just saw right there, we noticed that the head of gold is there that represents the kingdom of Babylon.

We have the chest and arms of silver that represents the kingdom of Medo-Persia.

We got the belly of bronze, which represents the kingdom of?

Greece, then you got the legs of iron, which represents?

Rome, and then you get the feet that's mixed with iron and clay.

Now the Bible describes, this is describing Rome becoming divided.

The kingdom of Rome becomes divided and it gets split up into 10 separate kingdoms all over Europe.

Now, friends, I want you to notice something.

The Bible says in this state of division, these kings from all over are gonna try to unite once again to have a kingdom that rules the world.

And so in Bible prophecy, I want you to notice, we're not at the head, we're not the arms of chest and silver, the belly or the legs.

And I like to tell people, we are at the toenails of Bible prophecy, and we are about to be clipped off.

There is a sign there that I think many of us have missed.

So, you have this, the feet mixed with iron and clay.

So we know that Rome is there, but then you get this clay within the kingdom of Rome.

Now, the Bible describes that obviously the iron represents the kingdom of Rome, but what is the clay?

Now, you need to pay close attention to this, Okay?

Do not miss this or you're gonna miss everything.

The feet mixed, the feet that has iron and clay, what does the clay represent?

The Bible says in Jeremiah 18 verse 6, O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter?' "'Says the Lord.

"'Behold, as the clay is in the potter's hand, "'so are you in my hand, O house of Israel.'" So the clay represents who?

04 What Makes the Devil Angry?

Dear Heavenly Father, we pray you'll continue to be with us as we seek to look at some truths in your word.

We pray they'll be applicable to our lives and that you will guide in this session in Jesus name.

Are there things that make you angry maybe even irrationally angry?

I Found this online 10 little things that make you irrationally angry Number 1 when your internet connection drops, that's a little frustrating in fact.

I was talking to a presenter that's just 1 down, and he was going to work on a lot of his stuff over Christmas.

They live way out in the boondocks, and their internet just went down.

So I was scrambling the airports and everything else on the way here.

Another 1, when someone tries to talk to you when you're on the phone with someone.

Like you're trying to listen to 2 people at once and if you're a guy, this is really outside the realm of possibility.

Forgetting your password, and now we have 1000000 passwords for everything under the sun.

Number 5, people who tell you to calm down or cheer up when you're neither angry or upset.

Number 6, anyone who puts empty cartons back in the fridge, who does that?

Number 7, anyone pushing the elevator floor button after watching you push it first?

Okay, number 8, people who are completely unprepared for situations that they know are going to happen.

Number 9, people who take up 2 parking spaces.

That happened to me yesterday, until I tried to squeeze in and I literally could not get out of the car.

And number 10, stepping in something wet just after putting on a clean pair of socks.

What makes you saddened at the Adventist?

These are the things we've already covered.

We're doing what makes the devil angry and then tomorrow, what's wrong with being a cultural Adventist?

Can I just pick and choose from the buffet?

Revelation 12, 12 again, woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea, for the devil has come down to you having what?

Or you could say very angry, because he knows that he has a short time.

And the dragon was enraged, another word for anger, with the woman.

And he went to make war with the rest of her offspring, he who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ." And we've talked about how the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

We've talked about these 2 characteristics of God's last day people and how only the Seventh-day Adventist church has both of those.

Here is a picture of some of the Spirit of Prophecy books, some of the older versions.

This was actually taken at my wife's grandmother's house.

Just collected a bunch on the shelf and took that picture.

But the question is, if God has not restored the gift of prophecy in his last day church, then he would not be faithful to his own word.

People like to say, well, we're the people of the book.

Well then if we're the people of the book, what do you do with the verses that say the last day church will have the gift of prophecy?

God promised to restore the gift of prophecy and I think he's true to his word.

It says, Surely the Lord God does how much?

Nothing unless He reveals His secret to His servants, the prophets.

And then Jesus Himself said, Beware of false prophets who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are Ravenous wolves.

I'm glad you have all of Scripture memorized.

If we know that God is going to restore the gift of prophecy in the end, then we have to be open to that idea.

But we don't want to just accept anybody that shows up and says, I'm a prophet.

So how can we tell the difference between the true and the false?

Well we do have some biblical tests of a true prophet.

I'm not going to try and do an exhaustive study of this, but I must confess that Jesus is the Son of God is 1 of those.

1 John 4 says, Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

Next verse, Hereby know ye that the Spirit of God, every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God.

Must confess that Jesus is the Son of God.

It says in Jeremiah 28, 9, the prophet which prophesieth of peace, when the word of the prophet shall come to pass, then shall the prophet be known that the Lord hath truly sent him.

If we had time we could look at another verse, Deuteronomy 18, 22, says something similar.

Now there are prophets that have made predictions that have come to pass.

Nostradamus is 1 that continually keeps coming up in the news from a long time ago, what 1600s or something.

Says Nostradamus predictions for 2025 revealed and there's all sorts of doom and disaster to prepare for.

And I'm sure there's another article that says something similar.

Let me ask you this, does the devil have access to conversations?

I don't think he can read our thoughts, but he can hear what we have to say.

Does that mean he has access to conversations in back rooms?

Between political leaders, between who knows whatever.

So you can essentially say that the devil has access to lots of information.

The more information you have, can you make some predictions?

And even with some accuracy on some of those predictions.

And if you Look at Nostradamus, 449 known major prophecies, 18 were wrong, 395 no known events, so it's just kind of an ambiguous something.

So there's only 9% accuracy, But somehow that 9% accuracy has won him the Prophet Hall of Fame that in 2026 there's going to be some Headline that's going to get clickbait on somebody that wants to know about what's going to happen to them will love come to you in 2026 what did Nostradamus have to say don't waste your time friends 9% accuracy is not near enough when God makes a prediction.
