Angel of the Covenant

We're going to open our Bibles this morning.

And it was interesting as Pastor Edwards was speaking last night, he didn't know that I was going to do Revelation 10 this morning.

So we're going to do Revelation chapter 10.

And by God's grace, we actually have a little bit more time than normal, so hopefully you've come ready to think.

It's a good thing I get you in the early part of the day, this is when your brain is most attentive and active and alert.

We're going to be studying, and in the process of studying, you're going to need to pay attention to the details.

I mean, it might be some preaching involved, but we're going to study.

And so I want you to open your Bibles with me to the book of Revelation, Revelation chapter 10.

And some of you have handouts, some of you don't.

If you don't have a handout, I can get 1 to you later on.

But we're going to begin to study Revelation chapter 10.

And we're going to begin reading at verse number 1.

And it's going to probably take us about 40 minutes to get through verse 1 and 2.

So Revelation chapter 10, we're going to begin reading at verse number 1.

The Bible says, I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud, and a rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire.

Now, I first want to deal with this idea of this angel.

A mighty angel that comes down from heaven.

And particularly, it is clothed with a cloud, and a rainbow is upon his head.

Now in order to understand the book of Revelation, we understand that all the books of the Bible meet in the book of Revelation.

So there's no way to study the book of Revelation without studying the whole Bible.

So in order to understand this, in order to make sure that we come to a point, I want you to start thinking in your mind, we're not just going to stay in this passage, we're going to study the Bible.

So in Revelation chapter 10, and I told him, Brother Narl, I said last night when you said it, you didn't know I was going to do this today.

So Revelation chapter 10, we find this cloud and a rainbow together.

Now the first time that this is mentioned, the first time that a rainbow and a cloud is mentioned together is in the book of Genesis.

And what I've done, I put the verse on the screen so that way we can just kind of see it together, how I highlighted it in my Bible, so you can see what I see.

In Genesis chapter 9, in verse 13, it says, I do set my bow, where is it from, my friends?

So the bow is in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a, what's it say?

Now remember, yesterday, as we were going through, we saw that throughout all the generations, there have been a people of the covenant.

From the Adam and Eve all the way down now to the end of time of the remnant church there has been a people that have been responsible for the covenant.

So here I do set my bow in the cloud and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth.

And it shall come to pass when I bring a cloud over the earth that the bowl shall be seen in the cloud.

And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you, and every living creature of all flesh and the water shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh.

I'm gonna ask you a question, a question of observation.

Every question I ask you is a simple question, not complicated.

So based on what we've read here, who is the covenant between?

There's a covenant that God is making between God, man, and all the earth.

And he's coveting it, and I'm going to ask you this.

It says here, and I find it interesting, it says, and I will remember my covenant.

Now is it necessary for God to put a rainbow for him to remember?

So who is he really putting the rainbow for?

The intentionality of God, he's putting a rainbow in the cloud to remind us.

And the bow shall be in the cloud, and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth.

Now this has become so very special to me.

When I look at the nature now, I don't just look at nature like randomly.

When I see a bow in the cloud, I think of God's promise, his everlasting covenant to me.

Every time I see it, it is a gospel message that God is speaking to me that he is not going to leave me on this planet to suffer great suffering much longer.

And you're gonna see why I'm saying that when we finish through Revelation chapter 10.

So I have a quiz question for you, just wanna make sure.

A covenant, I need you to say it with confidence, my friends.

But a bow in the cloud is a symbol of what, my friends?

So when we see this angel in Revelation chapter 10, and I'll read it once more, I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud, and a rainbow was upon his head.

So then I wanted to look at this idea dealing with the cloud.

And I went through as many passages as I could to understand the relevancy of why is it that the Bible is highlighting that this angel is clothed in a cloud.

So I'm going to put a couple of things here.

Exodus chapter 13, verse 21, it says, And the Lord went before them by day in the pillar of cloud to lead them the way and by night and pillar of fire to give them light to go by day and night.

And it came to pass as Aaron spake unto the whole congregation of the children of Israel that they looked toward the wilderness and behold The glory of the Lord appeared in the cloud.

Again, in Exodus chapter 19, verse 9, the Bible says, and the Lord said unto Moses, lo, I come unto thee in a thick cloud.

Based on these verses, Who comes in a cloud?

In fact, if we were to go back and do an Old Testament study and we were to look at that angel that was with them in the pillar of cloud as they went through the wilderness, That angel was no ordinary angel.

The divinity, divinity appears in a cloud.

Leviticus 16 verse 2 says, And the Lord sent unto Moses, Speak unto Aaron thy brother, that he come not at all times into the holy place within the veil before the mercy seat, which is upon the ark, that he die not.
