“Hold Fast”

All right, good morning and happy Sabbath.

Okay, because I can hardly hear myself, but that's great.

As long as you can hear me, I'm happy to be here.

I'll try to look all directions throughout the message so that you feel that I'm speaking to you as well.

We are pretty spread, but, and I apologize in advance.

I found out last night that we were actually gonna be outdoors, I didn't know that.

And so I had a PowerPoint and I had the whole three-point and the clothes and kind of a concept in mind.

And luckily, a good friend of mine bumped into someone at Walmart and he said, hey, we're going to be outdoors tomorrow.

You're gonna show up by yourself over there.

I was like, okay, time to change some plans.

And what we're gonna do today is a little bit different, if you've heard me preach before, and I know I've spoken here a number of times, is instead of kind of that three-point conceptual Bible study, very succinct, pointed Bible study that we would do, what I want to do is share with you more of a devotional thought that I personally had.

There will be a number of thoughts in a passage in Hebrews that I read this week, and hopefully you'll be blessed by 1 of the thoughts from the book of Hebrews.

I wanted to print it for you So you had a list of verses because I'm also used to PowerPoint because I talk fast when I get going and I know that and I apologize.

But I ran out of ink so I had no ink this morning to print.

So if I do start going too fast please go ahead and just let me know and I can slow down.

Alright, trying to see if I should move somewhere for that.

Well let's go ahead and begin with the word of prayer and let's have our Bible study.

Father in heaven, thank you so much for the privilege that we have to come outdoors to study your word, to behold your goodness in scripture, and to behold your beauty in nature.

And we just invite your Holy Spirit to be here to speak to us individually and personally.

You told us that you have a thought in the scriptures for each 1 of us.

And I pray Lord that you would help us to hear that thought for ourselves today.

I pray that the enemy would not distract our minds from the moment that we most desperately need to hear something from your word.

So bless us and please be with me, be with my thoughts and my words as I share today in Jesus name, Amen.

If you have your Bibles please open to Hebrews chapter 10, Hebrews chapter 10 and we're gonna begin in verse 19.

You know 1 thing I love about the Bible is it doesn't seem to matter what I read or where I read.

It always seems to speak to what I'm going through.

That it doesn't really matter where you read in scripture, it tends to speak to what you're going through.

And Hebrews 10 has spoken to me in a very beautiful way.

And what we're gonna do is read a few verses from Hebrews, and then I'll tell you the phrase we're gonna study.

We're gonna go phrase by phrase through the passage and look at additional verses to kind of supplement those thoughts.

So verse 19, the Bible says in Hebrews chapter 10, Therefore brethren, having boldness to enter the holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which he consecrated for us through the veil that is his flesh, and having a high priest over the house of God." So let's stop right there.

I love a lot of the Bible, especially a lot of the Bible that doesn't maybe get preached on as much, because it's very heavy.

There's a lot of theology in the book of Hebrews.

But I want us to take it phrase by phrase and just think about what the text is saying.

Just think about what the text is saying and think about our experience.

So the first thing it talks about here, it says, therefore brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus, Let's talk about that first.

What is this holy place that Paul is referring to?

Where is this location that he's saying that we can have a boldness and a confidence to enter into?

Another name for this is the tabernacle or the sanctuary.

In the book of Hebrews, it's referring to the holy place in the heavenly sanctuary specifically, but the general concept that this is the temple of God that is being referred to.

And we see the temple throughout the whole Bible.

You have the temple, the wilderness, the tabernacle, I should say, the tabernacle in the wilderness in the Old Testament.

You have Solomon's temple, we have Herod's temple, we have the vision of the Ezekiel temple that was never built.

And we have this sanctuary theme throughout the entire Bible, all the way to the last couple chapters of the book of Revelation, it's still talking about the sanctuary.

But here it's saying that we should enter there with boldness and confidence.

If you have your Bibles, go with me to Psalm 27, verse 4.

You know, Every time when I was a kid, I was the why kid.

The why kid always asks why when your parents say something.

Especially if we're going somewhere new, I wanted to know why we're going there.

I wanted to know what was in it for me if I were to go to a new place.

And sometimes it paid out and sometimes it didn't, but with God, it always pays out, amen?

So he wants us to go with boldness and confidence to the holy place.

Psalm 27 verse 4, describing the temple of God, also called the house of God.

The Bible says, 1 thing, David speaking, 1 thing I have desired of the Lord and that will I seek.

Don't answer, but how many things are you desiring?

You know, when I read this verse, I thought that's an interesting verse for this man after God's own heart, you know?

Because in my mind, it's like, how many things am I desiring right now?

I can name at least 3 things off the top of my head real quick in the next week and a half that I'm really desiring of the Lord.

And he says, and that's what I will seek after.

See, desire is not enough for the psalmist, is it?

He says, not only do I desire it, but I'm gonna do something about my desire.

I'm gonna seek after the thing that I desire.

That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life." Where did he want to go?
