18 When the Day of Atonement Ends

Our last presentation, we talked about the judgment beginning when, does anybody remember when the judgment began?

We learned that in 1844, the atonement, also known as the judgment, began in heaven.

God initiated a movement on earth to warn the world that the last phase in the ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ in heaven had already started.

The blood of Jesus covers the sins recorded on the books.

As God is preparing us to go home, God accomplishes that cleansing through a daily experience of every day coming to Christ, asking God to forgive us, to make sure that there is no sin between me and my Savior.

Every day recommitting our lives to the Lord.

Every day asking for the outpouring of the Spirit on my life.

Every day getting into God's Word, the bread of life, and communing with Him in prayer, and this is the daily experience.

This is the experience we've talked through already in the sanctuary, isn't it?

It's the daily experience right here in the holy place that we're to go.

And we've talked about when we do sin and when things come apart, we come back out into the courtyard still surrounded by Christ's righteousness, still in his salvation.

We come back here and go to the cross and receive the blood again, amen?

When the day of atonement ends, Jesus will return.

I hear a few amens, I think I should hear a few more.

You know in the Bible that there is 1 of the most, this is 1 of the most exciting themes repeated over and over.

In fact, the Bible records or mentions the second coming 2, 500 times.

This blessed hope is the climax of our joy and our hope.

And sadly today there is a great deal of confusion about the coming of Jesus.

And It's just the way the devil would have it, isn't it?

The devil's goal is always to confuse people.

When Jesus came the first time, if we remember, Satan set out to confuse Jesus' plan.

The Bible talked about that Jesus would be born in what city?

And as we studied the series and prophecies of Daniel, it also indicated the time the Messiah would come.

Instead, people came up with fanciful things.

And the people either didn't study for themselves, they listened to religious leaders who taught the Messiah would be a conquering king, Or maybe it was just out of a hope of the hatred of the Romans.

Israel, the people of God, who had all the right books right there in front of them, but they were deceived.

And you know, I personally am concerned the devil has a similar plan in terms of the second coming.

Today, there are 2 central teachings with a few variations from these.

The predominant 1 talks about a second coming in 2 stages.

The first is something called a secret rapture and then there is the 7 years of tribulation between the actual coming.

And we will find that after the actual coming, Jesus will come, according to this teaching, and set up his kingdom amongst the sinful nations and reign for a thousand years.

You're gonna find in this study today, This is not what the Bible teaches.

We find that this rapture they talk about is a sneaky, quiet event.

Jesus somehow sneaks up on planet earth and then poof, people start disappearing.

I sure hope I'm not on a plane when that happens.

This teaching says that the rapture takes place before the revelation of the Antichrist and before the 7 years of tribulation.

Even during the 7 years, the wicked have a second chance to redeem themselves.

In fact, they even have a third chance during the thousand years that Jesus sets up His kingdom amongst the wicked.

When you ask people to study the second coming, many have beliefs, but very few, if any, have text to support those beliefs.

It is more about what their pastor said or what some fictional book they have read says.

A lot of you might actually understand all of this already and that's fine, but I would challenge you for 2 reasons.

And 2 is, there are so many people who have misconceptions about this.

It's great for you to have a Bible study, to be able to do this study with people.

Our presentation, when the day of atonement ends, Jesus' second coming, I'm gonna begin with prayer.

Dear Heavenly Father, Lord we come before you excited.

Father it's your Sabbath day, a day we get to spend with you.

Father, we're excited because we know you are coming soon.

And Father, we're excited that today, for many of us, this will be a refresh.

That Father, you make it clear in your Bible how you will come.

So number 1, jumping right in, who is the 1 who will soon emerge from the temple in heaven?

Revelation 14, 14, then I looked up and behold a white cloud and on the cloud sat 1 like the son of man, having on his head a golden crown.

You know, in the Old Testament, on the Day of Atonement, as the record of Israel's sins are collected over the year, it was to be cleansed, right?

The people were outside, focused on what was happening in the temple.

They were literally just standing there or kneeling there, focused on what was going on.

They needed to think and ensure that there was nothing between their soul and their Savior, because once the High Priest came out, it was over.

And if anything were remaining between their soul and their Savior, they would be cut off.

This process wasn't a specific amount of time.

It wasn't like they said the high priest has been in there for a little while, it's only 45 minutes more, and then he's going to come out.

They never knew when the High Priest was going to come out.

They would sit there waiting, watching, listening, praying.

And I think there's a message in there for you and me.

As our High Priest is in the heavenly sanctuary, cleansing the books, we need to be focusing as well.

We need to be waiting, watching, listening, praying.

We need to know that time is short, but we do not know the day or the hour Christ is coming.

Unmasking Judas: The Double Life of a Disciple

This seminar is titled, The Double Life of a Disciple.

Now, before I pray, I just wanna preface with the fact that addiction is a very layered topic.

I work as a therapist in Virginia, Newmarket, Virginia, and I deal with people dealing with a lot of behavioral addictions.

So I work specifically with men who are recovering from sex addiction, whether it's pornography to, I mean, all kinds of things.

Yeah, there's all kinds of things within the realm of sex addiction and couples who've dealt with infidelity, video game addiction.

So I work with addiction quite a bit and I myself have his testimony and recovering.

So by no means is this seminar an expose on all things addiction and what the Bible says about addiction because it can get deep.

For example, there's a debate about is addiction a disease or is addiction a choice?

There's a huge debate about that and I believe the Bible has a lot to say.

But today we'll be focusing on 3 areas that Judas's story can teach us about the very heart of addiction and what I believe Jesus is calling us to.

And in your life, think about, think about what you might be addicted to.

So let's define that real quick, again before we pray.

Addiction is the continued use of a behavior, a substance, or a device, despite negative consequences.

So despite the negative consequences in your life, you're continuing to use it.

Some experts call addiction an abnormal love.

Why are you so in love with this thing that is only hurting you and hurting others around you?

So it could be a behavior, it could be a substance, it could be a device.

And whether you wanna stop it or not, it can still be an addiction.

But oftentimes we do want to stop, but we find ourselves going back, going back.

It's like, oh, there's something about it that gives me a bit of a dopamine hit.

What is Judas, the life of Judas teaches about addiction?

Father in heaven, we thank you for this opportunity to learn from the tragedy of Judas that Lord it may not be our story.

We believe you put it there for, you put his story out in the open for a reason.

And I just pray that for each and every brother and sister here that you'd speak to them in the areas of their lives where there might be some addictive habits.

They say not all addiction is sin but all sin is addiction and so maybe there's some things we're struggling with that we just can't seem to get over.

Whether it's a substance, behavior, anger, teach us through this seminar and help us to equip others as well in their journey.

Judas, the story of Judas, it's a little spicy, so let me start with something a little spicy.

The man on the slide here is Charlie Kirk.

Charlie Kirk, unfortunately, was assassinated just under 2 months ago on September 10th, 2025.

His death sparked a whole lot of conversation.

On your Facebook, on your Instagram, people were saying this, people were saying that.

It was just people talking about it right and even within the christian church even within adventism let's just talk about adventism there was a debate.

On 1 side, there was a debate and some people were saying like, man, Charlie Kirk, he was a Christian.

He was, in fact, some even would say he was a martyr.

He stood for his beliefs and he stood for truth, even though the culture stood for something else.

He stood for Christian principles, despite what people said about him.

He treated his family well, he treated his friends well.

Charlie Kirk was a true disciple of Christ.

On the other side of the debate, they say, actually, was Charlie Kirk truly a Christian or did he just profess to be a Christian?

Because it sounds like in a lot of the ways that he He talked and the things that he said, they were quite offensive to many.

And would Jesus really treat and talk to others in that way?

And so some people believe that, no, I don't think that it is right to call Charlie Kirk a true Christian.

And so there's this debate going back and forth of whether Charlie Kirk was a true disciple of Christ.

I've seen it on all sides and then there's the people who ride the middle lane, you know, they're like, well I think we can see both sides of the story, you know, and on 1 hand, you know, we can't judge but on the other hand we can acknowledge it.

There's debate about whether Charlie Kirk was a disciple.

Until Judas betrayed Jesus, everyone was convinced that Judas was a true disciple.

In fact, Judas was respected as 1 of the most honored disciples in the 12.

By the way, that slide is, you guys know where that's from?

The scene of the Last Supper, and when you're there say Amen, and as Sebastian would say, if you're not there, have mercy.

So John chapter 13 it's the last supper and Jesus says some important words here verse 21 and it reads when Jesus had said these things he was troubled in spirit and testified and said, most assuredly I say to you, 1 of you will betray me.

And then disciples looked at another perplexed about whom he spoke.

Now we reading this story know who it is correct?

Have you guys ever played the game Mafia or Chameleon and you're like you got a guess like who it is?

Like it was literally that they're just like who could it be?

Now there was leaning on Jesus's bosom 1 of his disciples whom Jesus loved.

The Thinnest Line: Sexual Purity in a World Corrupted

Our scripture reading is going to come from 1st Corinthians 6 and verse 18.

Every sin that a man does is without the body.

But he that commits fornication sins against his own body.

Our message this Sabbath is entitled, The Thinnest Line.

Father God we thank you for this opportunity to study your word.

I want to pray and ask now Lord that you just make me a nail hammered into the wall by your Holy Spirit.

Then Lord I ask that upon that nail you hang a portrait of Jesus Christ.

Instead Father God we want to hear a word from the throne room of grace.

If you have your Bible, you can go with me to 2 Samuel chapter 13.

We're going to come from here and we're going to go from a passage in 1 Thessalonians as well.

And we are going to build a case and we are going to follow through this thing.

Now I want you if you can follow along some of you young people take notes.

Now to give you the backdrop of the story, in the previous chapter, David, King David is visited by the prophet Nathan and David is called out for his sin with Bathsheba.

And a punishment is even given to David that in fact 4 of his children are going to die because he killed Uriah the Hittite.

The story sets the stage that David's sexual sin is going to forever corrupt, alter, and taint the kingdom.

And we know that within just a generation or 2 generations, the whole kingdom splits in half and sexual sin follows Israel and Judah all the way through.

But it shows up right away in the chapter after Nathan goes to David to give him his rebuke in 2nd Samuel 13 and verse 1.

The Bible says this, and it came to pass after this that Absalom the son of David had a fair sister whose name was Tamar and Amnon the son of David loved her.

The story is 1 of the most difficult stories in the Bible to read never mind preach.

The story begins with the fact that David by now has had children from many, many different women, as we're going to see in a second.

And it's, and I highlight the word fear there because David's daughter, Tamar, had to have been incredibly beautiful.

She was a virgin and there was special clothes that she actually wore, very colorful dresses.

This was an amazing young lady, not just because of her physical beauty, but because spiritually she was a child of God.

But the story takes a weird twist and it says, and Amnon the son of David loved her.

Now what is the problem with this from the outset of the story?

They are half siblings, making the story weird.

In fact, here's the genealogy of David's progeny.

And you can see in Hebron, he had all these different wives, had all these different kings, kids.

And you can see later on actually Absalom jumps into the story.

And you see they were from the same mother.

So Absalom wanted to protect his full sister.

Amnon fell in love with her and just to show you the consequences of sin, literally 4 of David's children will die before the next few chapters of the of the book 2 Samuel are over.

Now I want to point out something, I don't have time to really get into this this morning, but I do want to point out that from Bathsheba there are 2 kids that David has.

Now interestingly, Bathsheba is the 1 who David commits adultery with And when you look at Bathsheba, it is from her lineage that both Joseph and Mary come from.

And then of course Jesus is raised by Joseph and comes from Mary.

Now, So much you could say about that, because you would think, well, if Bathsheba was involved in such a scandal, why would Jesus come from her?

Let me tell you something, all of the women, when you track back into Jesus' life, all 4 of the women, or at least the 3 ancient women, they have issues.

And Amnon was so vexed, Jamaican people like to use the word vexed, so this word is very familiar to me growing up Jamaican.

He was so vexed that he fell sick for his sister Tamar, for she was a virgin and Amnon thought it hard for him to do anything to her.

What is interesting when you look at that is his mindset about his sister and I highlight it here is that he would do something to her.

Young people, I want you to get that when Amnon thought that he loved Tamar, what he really did is lust for Tamar.

The proof of that is right here in the second verse of the chapter.

It clearly says that what he wanted to do was something to her, watch this, not for her.

Young ladies don't miss what I'm about to say.

When a man actually loves you, he is not looking to do something to you, he wants to do something for you.

He wants to offer you, you know, gifts and love and he will do it on your time and more importantly on God's time.

When a man wants to do something to you, that is not lust, even if he has the most silver tongue.

Verse 3, but Amnon had a friend whose name was Jonadab.

In fact, Jonadab is actually his cousin, the son of Shimea, David's brother.

Jonadab was 1 of those slicksters that went around figuring out a way to always trick the system.

Jonadab was the dude always trying to find the homeboy hookup.

He's always the 1 figuring out, alright man, maybe we can get into the theater if somebody props the back door open.

He always had us, he always had us, an angle, always trying to find a better way to do things.

Let me say this, you will not live in purity the way God wants if you listen to the Jonadabs in your life.

The devil will raise up Jonadabs, and watch this, they will not always just be people it can be your favorite music artist is your Jonadab.

It can be your favorite person you follow on some social media platform.

Verse 4, Jonadab says why are you being the king's son lean from day to day will you not tell me and Amnon said to him I love Tamar my brother Absalom's sister Isn't it weird he saw Absalom his brother but not Tamar?

And remember that Amnon is the firstborn.

He thinks whatever he wants he's supposed to have it.

So when he realizes she's a virgin, she's his half-sister, he will probably never have her.

And so here he's whining to Jonadab about it.

And Jonadab said unto him, lay thee down on your bed and make yourself sick.

And when the father comes, when thy father comes to see you, say unto him, I pray thee let my sister Tamar come and give me meat and dress the meat in my sight that I may see it and eat it at her hand." And so he says, come up with a plan.

When you seek to be involved in relationships that God cannot bless, you are making yourself sick.

Much of the world seems interested in the mark of the beast, but sadly, very little of the world understands the importance of the seal of God.
