01 Introduction to Hydrotherapy: Hydrotherapy Kit

You are about to enjoy a presentation recorded at the 2021 Michigan Conference Camp Meeting held at Cedar Lake, Michigan.

We pray that the Lord will bless you as you listen.

Father in heaven, thank you that we can have this time together.

We're just so thrilled for the beautiful people that have come today.

They have come because they want you, they want your ways.

We need more of your presence, your plan, and your power in our lives.

And I pray that you'd be with Rich and Rhonda as they share with us each exciting day, unfolding some new principle of health and wellness.

Hey, 1 thing I wanted to just kind of maybe start off with is that there was a couple of places, in fact, we had just arrived at CAM Meeting, and someone came up to us and said, Oh, you're Scott.

And apparently somewhere it said that I was Scott.

Ah-ha, right on the wall before you come in here, it says Scott, and then in here it says Scott.

I can assure you I go aka Rich okay so just know it's Rich it's not Scott.

Scott is a real good name and I appreciate that but if you say Scott, don't think I'm ignoring you.

Okay, so we were told that there was going to be quite a few people here.

Okay, learning, any of you done hydrotherapy?

All right, quite a few but actually the majority have not.

Anyone that – had you even heard of hydrotherapy or – okay, very good.

So let's go ahead and see what we can do here.

Sorry if I'm standing in way, I'll kind of try to move a little bit.

Every person should have a knowledge of nature's remedial agencies and how to apply them.

It's kind of nice, because we give this seminar to many different types of groups and many times we have to leave our some of our quotations out but it's nice to be able to use full impact.

That's the Ministry of Healing by the way, page 127.

Hydro is water and therapy is cure, so water cure.

Put it in a sentence, it's the treatment of disease by the use of water.

Healing at your fingertips, water is in every home, it's inexpensive, even if you were to fill your bathtub full of hot water, That's a lot of hot water out of the water heater, isn't it?

But it's still less expensive than some of the alternatives.

This represents, Wouldn't you say like most, almost all, everything that you need?

And probably if you kind of look, you say, oh, I've got that at home, I've got that at home.

You've probably got 95% of this at home already And it's easy to apply.

Now the thing of it is, it is really easy to apply.

The tricky part is actually doing it so that you start...

There's a lot of little details, little details, but they're just simple little details.

So like my wife likes to say, I'll kind of steal her thunder, and that is, when you kind of watch this and get an idea, maybe you'll buy a book or whatever it is, please test your knowledge and do a treatment on a healthy person.

That way whenever you get to a sick person you're not going to be thinking, am I going to do this wrong?

Or do it on a healthy person so you got good feedback and that will be, that'll take a lot of the pressure off, I'll guarantee you.

A side effect, what would be the side effect of applying a water treatment?

And then also in regards to cold, you know, damaging the skin, too much cold perhaps.

You know, that could be a side effect, yes, but that wouldn't be a damaging side effect.

That would just be something that would be very positive.

Non-toxic of course, that's pretty neat huh?

You find anything in life that's non-toxic anymore?

Ideal for heat transfer, we're going to concentrate on this 1 for just a little while.

Enhances natural healing and this is a real good 1.

Whenever you can find something that actually works with the body rather than against the body, hydrotherapy is perfect for working with the body and using the body systems.

And also decreases antibiotic resistance.

So Rhonda's going to be talking about that in just a bit.

Okay, 1 thing that Rhonda and I have found, we'll tell on ourselves, oh yes, we do get sick.

However, we have found that if we will, do you know whenever you're first getting sick and you have those little tiny symptoms, that little tickle in your throat, the little fatigue, the little, And if somebody around you has had those same symptoms, it's even easier to tell, uh-oh, I think I'm in trouble because you know their symptoms and what they've told you and so on.

We have found that if we will use hydrotherapy aggressively and consistent from the very beginning that we can either nip that illness in the bud or if we do, if we get over the top, you know, and we do get sick, that generally speaking, that we can cut that illness in about 50%.

So if it's a two-week bug, by the way, when I was a kid, there used to be one-week bugs.

Now it's two-week bugs and it's four-week bugs.

So But 50% of the time, so if it's a one-week bug, two-week bug, we have it and the symptoms never really get as bad as somebody who has not had the opportunity to have the therapy on themselves.

Recovery illness, reduces the time of the illness, like I mentioned.

Injury recovery, decreases swelling and pain.

Of course that would have to do with like if you had a musculoskeletal injury using ice and rice, R-I-C-E, we'll kind of cover that as time goes along.

And muscle and joint pain relief, stress reduction.

I think probably Rhonda and I will need a little bit of hydrotherapy after this seminar actually.

It's interesting because if you look at illness today, I like to say I'll step out on a limb, that if you look at illness today, if you were to track things back to the origin, It's very possible that 1 of the major contributor, if not the major contributor, is there is not a good flow of blood.

In other words, there is a congestive process going on in the body and so if we can reestablish the perfect flow of blood, what's in the blood?

Of course you've got the nervous system and stuff like that, but all of the healing abilities in the blood.

02 Fight Smart with Thermophore Fomentations and Cold Mitten Friction

And I just want to start with another of the quotes from Mrs.

The 1 I'm going to read is about curing diphtheria and it helped gain physician confidence.

This is on the right-hand side at the top.

You want to know how to use the common methods, the simple remedies of water.

It is a simple power, and that is so true.

It is so simple, but that's the way God does everything, right?

He makes it so that you don't have to get a doctorate to use it.

Although my husband and I were not physicians, yet we were, we could go around when the doctor's children were cut down, 4 and 5 in the families of physicians.

We never lost a case that is in diphtheria.

In doing this, we gained the confidence of the physicians.

You can melt your way into the hearts of the worst souls and they be converted.

This is part of the entering wedge hydrotherapy, because when you help them physically, They are so much more receptive to what else you might know.

I have seen this over and over and over again.

It is truly amazing, the prejudice that it breaks down, the amazing things that it does in reaching out to people.

Sometimes they're a little skeptical, but they sometimes will go on your faith, your enthusiasm and knowing your confidence.

So that's why it's very important to feel confident doing these.

Practice them on well people so that when you have a sick person you aren't intimidated because it's amazing.

You can know everything exactly how to do it but until you've done it it can be very intimidating as simple as it is.

I can tell you people that have been to lots of seminars, but they're intimidated to do it when a person actually gets sick.

They're afraid, oh, what if I do it wrong?

If you haven't practiced, you're probably not going to use it when someone gets sick.

You're not going to use it if you haven't practiced.

Most likely, maybe on your children, but you need to practice it.

And by the way, when you're working with a patient, Having prayer with them and asking God to bless that treatment is very important.

Even if they aren't interested in God, you do ask them, may I have prayer for you?

But these work because God has given us these principles and we need to ask His blessing on them.

And it gives the people confidence that there's something more than just water working on them.

Father in heaven, we are so thankful for your goodness in giving us these simple, simple ways.

I pray that you will help us to see the opportunities that you will bring to us to use them.

And I pray that you will give us confidence in you to move ahead with them as well.

May we speak clearly and may we all have clear thinking and understanding.

I'm going to finish the lecture I didn't finish yesterday.

And then we're going to talk about what's over here.

And then we'll go into today's treatments, OK?

See what else is wrong, because if you don't correct what else is wrong, hydro isn't going to do as much.

The earlier you catch it, the more effective it is.

Many times you can stop it, but if you can't, you can at least cut it, the time down of the illness.

That's why you want to practice beforehand.

So that your comfort zone is bigger than it is right now.

A seminar is easy to go to and you could know everything, but you need to practice it before you do it on a sick person.

I've had, I don't know how many people tell me, well, you know, I forgot or I wasn't thinking, you know, I didn't know if it would work on this or I didn't know what to do, you know.

Experience is what will give you confidence.

Never treat beyond the patient's tolerance.

If you're giving them a hot and cold or whatever and it's much colder than they can tolerate in the shower, they're probably not going to let you do a second 1.

So you do try to encourage them in the right direction, but you do have to work somewhat with their limitations.

Every time I hit them with cold, they know ahead of time that the cold's coming.

Even though they know technically that it's coming, I do it just before I hit.

And, you know, they can cooperate then with you.

And if they get an idea that it's supposed to be torture or whatever, and ask them, how do you feel?

When you ask them how they feel, they think it's supposed to be miserable oftentimes.

They think it's supposed to be, the hotter the better, right?

They can let you burn them and they'll say everything was fine.

When they are, when you, instead of saying, is it okay or is it, you know, they don't know what okay is.

And so use words that are more descriptive than it is.

Be observant of their reactions, words and expressions, because you can say, is it too hot?

But they're lifting it up off their chest or they're squirming or they're, You know, it's too hot.

It doesn't matter how many towels you have to add, what you have to do, you don't want to burn them, and so you respond to that even though they said it's okay.

Use caution when applying treatments to patients with nerve or circulation impairment.

03 Hot Foot Bath, Contrast Bath and Home-style Russian Bath

Father in Heaven, we are thankful for another beautiful day, another day to serve you and learn more of how to honor you in our health and helping others.

And we pray that you will be with us as we are here this morning.

Give us clear thinking and words and clear understanding.

The 1 I'm going to read this morning is not appreciated as should be.

It's on the bottom of the left-hand side.

But many have never learned by experience the beneficial effects of the proper use of water, and they are afraid of it.

Many people, they know about it, but they're afraid of it.

And that's why you practice on a well person.

And might I add another very valuable learning experience is not only practicing it on a well person, but experiencing it on yourself.

You will learn every bit as much by experiencing it because you'll say, oh yeah, you really do get cold when you, you know.

Anyway, just if you can have someone practice on you, you will learn every bit as much.

So do it on someone and then have 1 done on you.

Water treatments are not appreciated as they should be, and to apply them skillfully requires work that many are unwilling to perform.

But none should feel excused for ignorance or indifference on this subject.

And you all are here because you're not going to be ignorant.

So, and you know, if you have someone sick before you've practiced, go ahead and try and pray.

I mean, it's probably not going to be your most perfect treatment, but not because it's difficult, but you just forget little things, you know, it's easy to forget.

So our first treatment this morning that we're going to do is the hot foot bath, and I'm sure you've probably all done 1 at some point, but Rich is going to demonstrate that, So you want to come get hooked up?

Oh yeah, well a little refresher and for those who have not, this will be an introduction.

Immersion of the feet in hot water, 100 degrees to 104 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes to increase and equalize blood circulation throughout the body.

Now, the last little bit, throughout the body, so how does that do that?

Why does it equalize blood flow throughout the body?

You know there's this balancing mechanism inside the body, And whenever something gets out of balance, the body will automatically try to balance that.

So if you put your feet in hot water and your feet begin to heat up, what is the body going to say?

I'm too warm or I will be too warm if I don't do something.

So how would, what would be the most efficient way for the body to cool the feet down?

If the feet are, have warm blood in them, to send cool blood down would be the most efficient way.

It just simply sends what's up here, cool, down to what is down there, hot, and then it sends the hot blood back up.

Actually you know something, if you're familiar with the car radiator, it's the same basic thing.

It's just sending, it's just recirculating.

So because of that, you're getting a real good recirculating of your blood flow.

This is a fantastic way to get unchilled because it will warm you up in no time, to enhance other treatments.

So you're just, all you're doing is you're just telling, actually kind of forcing the body in a good way to whatever other treatments like, you remember yesterday the fomentation?

We're doing a hot foot bath actually on the feet and it was enhancing the overall treatment so that's a good deal.

The assistance and prevention of an illness, so once again you are in an illness, stepping out on a limb, it's kind of a congested area and you want to decongest whatever is congested, therefore a hot foot bath will help in that process, thus helping to prevent an illness.

Okay, everyone just think for just a minute.

Your feet are in nice, warm 104 degree water right now, very relaxing.

So, if you're uptight, just take a few minutes.

So headache, nasal congestion, lungs, so a lung problem, pelvic organs.

So now, Do you remember the little story that I told the first day?

It was about the guy that had sinus headaches all his life.

If he didn't do a hot foot bath, but in combination, that would have been a really good combo.

If he could have stood at the sink with his feet in hot water, the same time he was doing the hot and cold on his sinuses, it would have even enhanced things, even though it worked nicely for him, it would have even worked better, faster.

Okay and then, I mean you can't get any more simple than this As far as a couple of towels and I don't even know whether you need them.

By the way, you know, it said that it helps the pelvic organs.

And the nice thing is, is sometimes this is something you could do for someone in the hospital.

You could do that, just a simple hot foot bath in the hospital.

We don't want Vicky to stress in the back there.

Yes, it can help edema some, but remember edema is a different circulatory system.

It's the lymphatic system rather than the blood system.

There's other things you can do for edema.

You want to be real careful with edema because it can make more swelling that the body can't handle because of the lymph system.

A hot foot bath, you could repeat 3 times a day, something like that, maybe even more actually.

The main thing is that when we're going to go through, there's a timing of course.

You finish your timing and then your body needs to, your feet need to kind of recover, your whole body actually needs to kind of calm down and cool down because you're getting heated during the time that you're doing the treatment.

And so you wait for maybe a couple of hours if you're going to do it multiple times a day so you do it, your timing, your body goes back to normal and then you can do it again maybe in 2 or 3 hours later.

Okay, I think that I can go ahead and get started.

04 Contrast Shower, Heating Compresses, Steam Inhalation

Father in Heaven, we are so thankful for the simplicity that you give us and yet the power.

And we pray that you will help us to each Know how and feel comfortable to use these simple things that you've given us to practice them and then help us to have someone that is willing to practice on us so that we can experience it.

I pray that you will be with this class now and May it honor Your name and may we have understanding.

Okay, we're going to talk about a couple simple things this time.

Yesterday we talked about steam all over our bodies, the steam cabinet.

Oh, and that reminds me, someone told me after class that the cabinet that I told you about that you can go online and for $90 to $125 or $150 you can order them.

They say, go on Marketplace and she showed me 1 for $20 and there was 1 for $35.

Of course if it's not local you have to pay for the shipping, but even if the shipping is $20, that's $40, that's less than half.

So I would go on Marketplace and look for just steam cabinet.

You don't say Russian, just say steam cabinet.

It's kind of like a cloth box and it has a little attached steam thing that pipes the steam in.

It's made so that you can give it to yourself.

It has a remote control that you put the steam on and off and you can, it has zippers so you can put your hands outside of the thing so you can, you know, wipe your sweat and, you know, whatever you need to do.

Somebody's come up with a really nice, convenient thing.

So I have a friend that Really swears by them.
